Meet Nadine Abi Jaber, MA, ATR, CGP

With over a decade of professional experience across art, psychotherapy, and community-based work, I have devoted my career to understanding emotional life through both creative and psychological perspectives. My path has included extensive study, clinical training, and continued professional development in art therapy, trauma-informed care, and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

My work is informed by advanced training in Object Relations Theory and Practice through the International Psychotherapy Institute (IPI), deepening my understanding of emotional life, relationships, trauma, and unconscious processes. I am interested in how early experiences, relationships, and life circumstances shape the ways we experience ourselves and connect with others.

I work with adults, adolescents, and children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, difficulties related to identity and self-esteem, relational or family challenges, grief and loss, and major life transitions.

I view therapy as a collaborative process and aim to offer a thoughtful, respectful space where clients can explore emotional difficulties with curiosity and care. Together, we may begin to understand how past experiences shape present emotional patterns, relationships, and self-perception, creating opportunities for greater self-understanding, emotional resilience, and renewed vitality.

Depending on each client’s needs, preferences, and goals, sessions may involve verbal psychotherapy, art therapy, or an integration of both. I see clients in person in Herndon, Virginia, and offer virtual sessions.

Education and Background

Nadine earned a Master of Arts in Art Therapy from The George Washington University in 2019, following earlier degrees in Fine Arts and Business and Management. She continues to deepen her clinical work through advanced training and study groups, valuing the depth, curiosity, and relational focus of psychodynamic and psychoanalytic traditions. Her work is further informed by ongoing Object Relations Core Training at the International Psychotherapy Institute (IPI).

As a Lebanese-American clinician who has lived and worked across cultures, Nadine brings a deeply informed multicultural and multilingual perspective to her practice. Having spent her formative years in Lebanon and later relocating to the United States over a decade ago, she is attuned to the psychological complexities of migration, cultural identity, displacement, and intergenerational experience. Her perspective is informed by an understanding of how culture, language, and sociopolitical context shape emotional life, relationships, and self-concept.

Nadine understands that emotional distress often exists on both conscious and unconscious levels and may be expressed through the body, relationships, and creative life. She believes in the human capacity for resilience and psychological renewal when experiences are approached with care, honesty, and relational support. Her work invites clients to explore deeper layers of emotional and relational life, helping them understand how past experiences shape present patterns and how new ways of relating to oneself can emerge. Her work supports clients in exploring deeper layers of emotional and relational life, understanding how past experiences shape present patterns, and discovering new ways of relating to themselves.

Experience & Mission

Through years of clinical practice in medical, military, educational, humanitarian, and community mental health settings, I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. My aim is to support clients in developing greater self-awareness, emotional responsibility, and a more integrated and vital sense of self through both verbal reflection and creative expression.

My work is grounded in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic principles and informed by continued study in Object Relations Theory and Practice through the International Psychotherapy Institute (IPI). I view therapy as a collaborative process and aim to create a thoughtful, respectful space where emotional complexity and inner struggles can be explored with curiosity and care.

Together, we may begin to understand how early relationships, trauma, and lived experiences shape present emotional patterns, relationships, and self-perception. Through this process, therapy can support deeper self-understanding, emotional resilience, and new ways of relating to oneself and others.

My Approach

My approach to therapy is psychodynamically and psychoanalytically informed, offering a space in which creative expression can support emotional exploration, insight, and psychological integration. Art-making may help clients engage with experiences that are sometimes difficult to access through language alone, while remaining grounded in the present moment and within the safety of the therapeutic relationship.

I value a collaborative and embodied therapeutic relationship and approach the art process with curiosity, care, and respect for each client’s inner world. Drawing from contemporary art psychotherapy and psychoanalytic perspectives, my work supports clients in developing insight, emotional integration, and a more authentic connection to themselves and their lived experience. I aim to support clients in moving at their own pace, allowing space for reflection, understanding, and emotional growth.

What to Expect

Healing and change often develop gradually through consistency, reflection, and sustained engagement. Therapy offers a space to relate to yourself, your emotions, and your experiences in new ways, while developing greater understanding of patterns that may feel confusing, painful, or difficult to put into words.

In therapy, you can expect to:

  • Explore how past experiences shape present emotional life and open new possibilities for the future
  • Question long-held assumptions about yourself and others
  • Experience both progress and difficulty, with time to reflect, integrate, and adjust
  • Be supported by an attentive and responsive therapeutic presence
  • Reflect on inner tensions, contradictions, and emotional complexity
